Naim Hamid (b. 2003, Melaka, Malaysia) is a contemporary landscape painter, having recently graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Newcastle University.

From the age of ten, Naim has been fascinated by the visual arts. He believes that art functions not only as an aesthetic pursuit, but also as a way of understanding the world around us and our place within it. Throughout his childhood, he developed his painting technique and observational skills, focused on the imitation of the world through a naturalistic approach. He attended Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor, where he studied fine art at secondary level, before going on to study International Baccalaureate at Malay College Kuala Kangsar.

His practice shifted towards a more internal focus in his late teens, as he started exploring questions of identity. Having been separated from the local art environment, he gained an outside perspective from being surrounded by unfamiliarity.

Naim's practice centres on an intuitive and contemplative process. Sitting in front of a painting, he enters his own world and engages in a dialogue with the canvas.

In his works, nature operates not as a subject to be identified, but as a mediator through which experience is synthesised. His paintings function as experiential landscapes rather than representations of specific places, where memory, time and phenomenological experiences are embedded through layers and gesture. Paint becomes a means of materialising emotion, allowing meaning to emerge through process. By working from personal experience rather than direct observation, his practice embraces unresolved spaces — a sensibility grounded in reflection, presence, and an ongoing search for meaning.
